How would you describe your style? My style is very natural and minimal. I love pieces that invoke a sense of calm and serenity.
Do you remember the first thing you made? As a kid, I remember making a tiny house out of an empty instant oatmeal box and covering it with seashells and buttons. I was always taking "junk" from around the house to make into fairy houses or unicorn hideaways.
Before I started making I… I worked in creative, visually oriented roles. I worked for a furniture and decor store as an assistant buyer, a small boutique clothing store, a custom jewelry company and as a graphic and website designer. All of these roles were multi-faceted, fast-paced positions that allowed me to hone in on my visual and creative abilities. A lot of what I learned in these positions has helped me in running my company today.
If I weren’t a maker I’d be... An interior designer. I love creating an entire environment and feeling in a room or space.
Favorite quote or words to live by: "Perfection does not exist" I'm such a perfectionist so I have to constantly remind myself of this.
If I could run away I’d go… To a meadow in the middle of nowhere. I grew up in a very rural area and I have always loved the stillness of nature.
If you could collaborate with one person dead or alive who would it be? I wish I could collaborate with my grandfather. He was a botanist specializing in orchids and I would have loved to create a line of scents based around the plants and flowers in his greenhouse.
What would be on your maker’s soundtrack? Gold by Chet Faker and Flume, Dissolve Me by alt-J, 99 by Elliot Moss, Gooey by Glass Animals and soooo many more.
If you could learn a new skill what would it be? I would love to learn how to blow glass. It's such a beautiful craft and takes incredible skill to master.
What’s your favorite movie? Whenever I need a pick me up it's Elf! Even if it's not Christmas.
Favorite artist? In college I minored in Art History and focused on Northern European Baroque artists. I'll always have a soft spot for Rubens, Vermeer and Rembrandt.
Last book you read? Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. It's so good!!
What would your last meal be? Something with a lot of chocolate. Maybe a chocolate cake.
Favorite scent? Lavender and balsam. They're such a calming combination.
Favorite Flower or Tree? Hydrangeas. I love the soft pastels of these flowers.
What do you see outside your bedroom window? I currently live in New York City and I'm so lucky to have a view of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building from my bedroom window!
What do you hear right now? I have an alt-J album playing in the background. Usually I hear city noises, but the city is very quiet these days.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? I once saw Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban in a sushi restaurant, although I didn't actually get to talk to them.
What was the last gift you gave someone? I got my fiancé a tiny planetarium for Valentines Day. It displays the constellations on the ceiling of our bedroom.
If money was not a factor how would you live your life? I would live on a giant farm in the middle of nowhere surrounded by animals. My dream is to start an animal sanctuary especially for farm animals.
Any hidden talents? I'm pretty good at thrifting both clothing and decor. I can usually find a gem in the middle of a pile of "stuff." Half of my wardrobe and home decor are all pieces I've found on thrift hunts.
Where did you grow up? Rural western Massachusetts on a horse farm. It was a very picturesque place to grow up.
Favorite time of day? Late morning. It's not too early, but there's still so much possibility left in the day.
Favorite holiday? Christmas! I love the warm fuzzy feeling from all the twinkly lights and Christmas songs.
What is your most treasured possession? I have a framed line drawing that Cori Maass created for me of my childhood pet cockatiel. I keep it right above my workstation and get to see it every day.
What is your favorite family tradition? My mom and I make gingerbread cookies every year for Christmas. We aren't very good at it and they come out looking crazy, but they taste great and it's so much fun to decorate them.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I wish I could fly. I would travel everywhere!
Most interesting thing in your cabinet? I have two little ceramic Delft Blue houses from flying to Amsterdam. The airline gave them to passengers as a gift. They're filled with Dutch Bols gin.
What are you currently watching? I'm re-watching Derry Girls and I'm about part way through Peaky Blinders.
What are you most thankful for? The maker community. The artists and makers I have met through markets have kept me so inspired. I'm incredibly thankful for how much support is within this community.
