How would you describe your style? When talking design: We have often been asked this question and I always find it difficult to answer. Our approach to traditional craftsmanship could refer to 'classic.' Our approach to design could refer to 'contemporary'. Some call it 'eclectic'. In the end, we probably would rather not lock ourselves to a particular style.
Do you remember the first thing you made? When I was about 10, I remember my little brother and I made a three-story playhouse. We were very proud, until the day a storm overturned it and it made a huge hole in the fence. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Maybe my dream of becoming an architect died that day.
Before I started making I… I played and studied. As kids I believe it is our human nature to be curious and to explore. And then one day, when you are not satisfied with what you see, you begin to make.
If I weren’t a maker I’d be... A sportsman or a building architect or (as my 'soon to become' wife would probably say), I would most likely be more present.
Favorite quote or words to live by: Hmm, actually no words came to my mind. But something like 'stay positive, be kind and pursue your passion' sounds good to me.
If I could run away I’d go… Traveling with my family. To places with beautiful nature and no stress.
If you could collaborate with one person dead or alive who would it be? One of my great grandfathers - I often hear stories about two of them and it seems like the creative genes in our family come from them. One was a painter and one was a real maker.
What would be on your maker’s soundtrack? My playlist has not been updated for the past year or so, but here you'll find a mix of artists like The xx, The Blaze, French 79, Fleet Foxes, Sébastien Tellier, Ornette,...and not least the great Dane Kvamie Liv (check her out).
If you could learn a new skill what would it be? With our latest design we have challenged the art of woodworking. It is always exciting to explore new areas, materials and skills, and it is my hope always to have the opportunity to learn new skills. Personally, I have also always had something for mechanical clocks/watches - so watchmaking it could also be.
Last book you read? Biography: Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, Fiction: A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. For my kids: Asterix & Obelix, and Peppa Pig (the only good thing about Peppa Pig is the length of the books).
What would your last meal be? I have no idea - I'm sure, when I get to that point my focus will be on my last actions or words.
Favorite scent? The scent of spring..and the smell of supper.
Favorite flower or tree? I really love deciduous trees like oak, maple and beech and how they reflect the seasons.
What is the most challenging project you have worked on? Why? Must be the creation of our Wire Collection. Due to the complexity and due to the fact that we had to develop and build special tools, fixtures and jigs to be able to make it, and with minimal of resources.
What do you see outside your bedroom window? Trees - and I love it. Two years ago, after ten years in Copenhagen City, my family and I moved to another part of Denmark rich on nature.
What do you hear right now? Listening to Fiona Apple - Tying to drown the noise from my kids playing next door (due to Corona lock-down).
Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? Could be Brad Ford;) In Denmark it might have been the Danish Queen Magrethe II of Denmark, when I was part of The Royal Life Guards.
What was the last gift you gave someone? Flowers - if it counts for a gift… to my ‘wife’, and yes it's a cheap trick.
If money was not a factor how would you live your life? To be honest I do not dream about luxurious cars or a big house. For me time is extremely valuable. Focus would be on family-time, being active and to spent more time on my passion - developing and making stuff.
Best piece of advice you have ever received? Shut up and dance! Advice from a friend, when we were talking about starting our own brand.
Any hidden talents? I believe I could have been a good runner, kayaker or hockey-player.
Where did you grow up? In a small village 40km outside the Capital of Denmark. In the buildings of a former dairy.
What is your most treasured possession? A 1974 mahogany racing kayak, crafted at a local workshop close to where I live.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? To slow down time.
What are you currently watching? Money Heist on Netflix, and of course corona news.
What are you most thankful for? My family and friends, the place where we live and that I have the privilege to work with my passion.
